about

Highly catchy sub-world pop gem, based on an Ethiopian melody (Yemoye Lale - Abonesh Adinew) by Zea (Arnold de Boer). Electro beat, moog bass, philicorda organ, sweet growling guitar and lyrics referring to the problem Frisian people (Arnold is from Fryslan, the North Central part of the Netherlands with its own language and culture) have with eating spicy food; it's all there.

The cover painting is by Kristos Solomon, from Addis Abeba, EThiopia. Next to it De Boer writes the story how he first met Oscar Jan Hoogland who joins on philicorda and moog on this song, about thirteen years ago during his first hour as a teacher of philosophy at a secondary school in Amsterdam.

lyrics

I am stopped by men who say
my head looks really strange
I’m afraid to lose my rights
They’re taking me away
and all the people leave their house
I’m an explosive danger they say

Have you seen my face
It went purple red
I think it got this way by
something I just ate
Have you seen my head
Then tell me where it went
It was blown away
By something I just ate

Bring a glass of milk
Or let me eat some yoghurt please
I’m about to lose my breath
I take all the napkins
Is there a way to hide this scene
Don’t you think it is killing me

Have you seen my head
Tell me where it went
I want to pick it up
And glue it to my chest
When the cleaners come
Tell them to put aside
A head that looks like mine
I’ll give a big reward

Have you seen my head
Then tell me where it went
It was blown away just now

Everybody’s asking
Why I’m purple red
I say it got this way by
something I just ate
Everybody’s asking
Why I’m purple red
I say it got this way by
something I just ate

My exploding head, would you like to see again, I’ll become a circus act
My exploding head you can come and watch again, only pay me 20 cents

about

Zea Amsterdam, Netherlands

Zea is Arnold de Boer: minimal, full-on, electric, acoustic, heart-felt, strange- edge.

Deploying guitar and sampler for intense and high energy songs. Urgent lyrics in English and in Frisian (his first language). Sometimes intimate, heart felt, poetic, at other times driven on roughshod beats and grimy bass lines. Joyfully obstinate, wonderfully bonkers.
